Cover Supervisor (Science)

Cover Supervisor (Science Preferred) – Temporary, Full-Time
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Contract: Until the End of the Academic Year

Salary: Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience)

TARA Recruitment is currently supporting a welcoming and well-regarded secondary school in the appointment of a Cover Supervisor to join their team as soon as possible. This is a temporary position running through to the end of the academic year, with a preference for candidates who have a background or strong interest in Science.

Overview of the Role
As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a vital role in maintaining continuity of learning in the absence of teaching staff. You will be responsible for supervising whole classes, delivering pre-set work, and ensuring that students remain engaged and on task. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals considering a future in teaching or those with prior school-based experience.

The school is particularly keen to hear from candidates with a leaning towards Science, who are confident supporting lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. While you will not be required to plan lessons, your subject knowledge will be beneficial in supporting student understanding and maintaining a productive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise classes during teacher absence, ensuring a calm and focused environment

  • Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials across a range of subjects

  • Support students in their learning and respond to basic queries

  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies

  • Provide feedback to teaching staff on lesson engagement and progress

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with young people in an educational or similar setting

  • Strong communication and classroom management skills

  • A degree or relevant experience, ideally with a Science focus

  • Confidence in delivering content across Key Stages 3 and 4

  • Flexible, reliable, and committed to supporting student learning
