This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate educator ready to take the next step as a head of department, or for an established head of department seeking a fresh challenge.
Overview of the Role
As Head of Science, you will lead and inspire a committed team across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, driving high standards of teaching, learning, and achievement. The successful candidate will be a dynamic head of department with a clear vision for curriculum development, staff progression, and student success. You will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the faculty, ensuring outstanding outcomes at all key stages.
The school is seeking a head of department who is both academically strong and an excellent communicator, capable of motivating staff and students alike. As head of department, you will be responsible for maintaining a culture of high expectations, continuous improvement, and innovation within the department.
Key Responsibilities

Provide strong, effective leadership as head of department across the Science faculty

Drive curriculum development and ensure high-quality teaching and learning

Monitor and evaluate student progress, implementing strategies to raise attainment

Support, coach, and develop teaching staff within the department

Manage departmental resources and contribute to whole-school improvement priorities
The Ideal Candidate

Qualified teacher with QTS and a specialism in a Science discipline

Proven track record of excellent classroom practice

Experience in leadership or readiness to step into a head of department role

Strong organisational and interpersonal skills

Commitment to raising standards and delivering exceptional outcomes
