Maths Teacher – Maternity Cover (September Start)

TARA Recruitment is proud to be supporting a highly regarded secondary school in the Newport area in the recruitment of a Maths Teacher for a maternity cover position commencing in September. This opportunity is initially expected to run until December, with the possibility of extension depending on the school's needs.

The school is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Maths Teacher who can inspire students and deliver engaging lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4. While the preference is for a full-time appointment, the school is willing to consider part-time applications from suitably qualified candidates.

The Role

The successful Maths Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality mathematics lessons, assessing student progress, and contributing positively to the wider school community. You will work closely with an established department to ensure students remain engaged and motivated in their learning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering engaging and effective mathematics lessons.

  • Planning, preparing, and assessing student work.

  • Monitoring and reporting on student progress.

  • Maintaining high expectations for behaviour and achievement.

  • Supporting students of varying abilities to achieve their potential.

  • Contributing to departmental and whole-school initiatives where appropriate.

Requirements

To be considered for this Maths Teacher position, candidates should possess:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Experience teaching Mathematics within a secondary school setting.

  • Strong classroom management skills.

  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • The ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).

  • A degree in Mathematics or a related subject.

  • An enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
