SEND Teacher - Part time
We are looking for an experienced (QTS not essential) SEND Teacher with a PMLD interest or background.
This is a Part Time Long Term 2 day per week (Thursday & Friday) vacancy at an Ofsted Outstanding SEND School in Harrow.
Pupil profile:
- Mixed gender. Ages 11 +
- Pupils have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and a range of needs including severe and profound learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions and sensory impairments.
SEND Teacher Educational approach:
- Personalized curriculum focused on each student’s strengths and individual outcomes.
- Support from specialist staff including adapted teaching strategies and therapeutic services.
Who the school supports:
The school primarily supports young people who have significant learning difficulties or disabilities that cannot be met through mainstream schooling, often with EHCPs specifying needs such as:
- Profound & multiple learning difficulties (PMLD)
- Severe learning difficulties (SLD)
- Autism (ASD)
- Multi-sensory impairments including visual or hearing impairments
- Because of smaller class sizes, specialist staff, and individualised approaches, it’s designed to provide a supportive environment where pupils can develop communication, independence and life skills alongside academic learning.

Our ideal (although not essential) SEND Teacher candidate will have:
- Strong understanding of complex needs
Including ASD, SLD, PMLD, sensory processing differences, communication disorders and physical disabilities — and how these impact learning, behaviour and engagement. - Expert in alternative communication
Confidence using PECS, Makaton, AAC devices, symbol-supported learning and visual timetables to ensure every pupil has a voice. - Therapeutic-informed practice
Ability to embed OT, SALT and physio strategies into everyday teaching rather than seeing therapy as separate from learning. - Enhanced DBS on Update Service (we can process one if necessary)
- Availability as soon as possible or with minimum notice period
The rate of pay for this position starts at £170 + per day via PAYE and can vary based on experience (so you earn your full rate, we take on extra NI costs for you so you do not have to pay NI) but if you utilise an Umbrella company, we are also happy to accommodate this.
