SEND Teacher (PMLD & Autism – Full Time)

SEND Teacher – Specialist PMLD & Autism School

Harrow | Full-Time | Long-Term Academic Year | ASAP Start | £200 Per Day PAYE

Tara Professional Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced SEND Teacher to join a specialist SEND school in Harrow, supporting secondary-aged pupils with a range of complex learning needs, including PMLD, Autism and SLD.

This is a long-term position for a minimum of the full academic year, offering excellent stability for a teacher or experienced SEND practitioner looking to establish themselves within a specialist school environment.

QTS is ideal but not essential. We are happy to consider experienced unqualified teachers and specialist SEND practitioners with the right experience. The advertised £200 per day PAYE rate is for suitably qualified candidates, with a lower rate available for unqualified candidates.

The Role

The successful candidate will have the option to work in one of two capacities:

Full-Time Classroom Teacher

Taking responsibility for a specialist class, including:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, personalised lessons
  • Adapting teaching to pupils' individual abilities and learning needs
  • Supporting pupils with PMLD, Autism and complex learning difficulties
  • Developing communication, independence and functional life skills
  • Creating a structured, safe and engaging learning environment
  • Monitoring and assessing pupil progress
  • Working closely with Teaching Assistants and specialist staff
  • Supporting sensory, communication and physical needs
  • Contributing to pupils' wider development and preparation for adulthood

Full-Time PPA Cover

There is also an opportunity for a candidate who would prefer to work as a full-time PPA Cover Teacher.

This option allows you to focus purely on teaching and delivering lessons across different classes, without taking on additional classroom responsibilities.

It would suit an experienced SEND practitioner who enjoys working across different pupil groups and wants to focus on the teaching element of the role.

About the School

This is a well-established specialist SEND school supporting pupils with complex learning needs across their secondary and post-16 education.

The school's approach is highly personalised, with learning focused not only on academic development but also on communication, independence, practical skills, social development and preparation for adulthood.

Pupils benefit from a broad curriculum and opportunities to develop skills through practical and real-world experiences, alongside support from a wider team of specialist professionals.

This is an excellent environment for a SEND Teacher who enjoys creating meaningful learning experiences and adapting their teaching to pupils with very different starting points and abilities.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a SEND Teacher or experienced specialist educator who has a genuine interest in working with pupils with complex SEND.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong experience working with pupils with PMLD and Autism
  • Previous experience within a specialist SEND environment
  • Relevant PMLD and Autism training would be highly advantageous
