SEND Teaching Assistant (PMLD Specialist)

SEND Teaching Assistant (PMLD Specialist)- Hammersmith

Full-Time | Long-Term | Potential to Go Permanent

£90–£100 per day | Immediate Start

We are recruiting a committed and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a highly specialist provision supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex learning needs across a broad age range.

This is a full-time, long-term role with an immediate start, and there is a strong likelihood of the position becoming permanent before the Summer Holidays for the right candidate.

The Setting

This specialist school provides highly personalised education for pupils with:

  • PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties)
  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
  • Autism with complex profiles
  • Significant communication needs (including non-verbal pupils)
  • Physical disabilities and medical needs

Classes are small, staffing ratios are high, and learning is adapted to meet pupils at their individual developmental levels.

The Role

As a full-time SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils within a structured, sensory-rich learning environment
  • Deliver 1:1 and small-group support
  • Assist with personal care where required
  • Promote communication development (AAC, sensory strategies, visual supports)
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff
  • Contribute to a safe, calm, and consistent daily routine

Consistency is Key

The school is specifically looking for a SEND Teaching Assistant who can commit long-term. Stability and routine are vital for pupils with PMLD, and the successful candidate must be reliable, patient, and able to build trusting relationships over time.

This is not a short-term supply role - it is an opportunity to embed yourself within a specialist team and potentially transition into a permanent contract.

Who We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience working in SEND/SEN settings
  • Confidence supporting pupils with PMLD and/or SLD
  • Experience across different age groups (Early Years through Secondary is welcomed)
  • A nurturing, calm, and resilient approach

Desirable:

  • Experience with sensory-based learning
  • Knowledge of alternative communication strategies (PECS, Makaton, visuals)
  • Background in care, therapy support, or specialist education

Requirements

  • Full-time availability (Monday–Friday)
  • DBS Certificate (Enhanced Child & Adult - we can process this for you)
  • Able to start ASAP
  • 2 years of professional references
  • Willing to complete a trial day or trial week

Why Apply?

This is a rare opportunity for a SEND Teaching Assistant to:

  • Secure a stable, long-term placement
  • Work within a highly respected specialist environment
  • Develop deep expertise in supporting pupils with PMLD
  • Transition into a permanent salaried position

If you are looking for consistency, professional growth, and the chance to make a meaningful impact in specialist SEND education, this role offers exactly that. Please click apply and wait to be contacted by the team at Tara Education.
