Supporting a Shropshire school in recruiting for a Resistant Materials and Wood Work teacher to start as soon as possible!
I am currently supporting a Shropshire school in the wonderful town of Shrewsbury in supporting them with their recruitment for Design Technology Teacher.
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Resistant Materials and Wood Work teacher to join their team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in woodworking techniques, the ability to teach students from beginner to advanced levels, and the ability to foster a safe and creative learning environment.
The teacher will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing woodworking lessons that help students develop practical skills and an appreciation for craftsmanship.

Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Design, or a related field (PGCE or QTS preferred).
- Proven experience teaching both subjects at secondary level, preferably in a similar educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of the curriculum.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- Dedication to promoting a positive learning environment and supporting the holistic development of students.
- Commitment to upholding the school's values and ethos.
- We will seek full referencing and DBS checks will before placing.
- Prior experience teaching woodworking or a related craft in a classroom or workshop setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach woodworking techniques, including cutting, shaping, and finishing wood.
- Instruct students in the safe and proper use of woodworking tools and equipment.
- Develop and deliver lesson plans that align with the curriculum and student needs.
- Teach students how to design and build wood projects, from simple to complex.
- Adapt teaching methods for students with different learning styles and skill levels.
- Enforce safety rules and procedures, ensuring students wear proper protective gear and handle tools correctly.
- Monitor student progress, providing guidance and feedback as needed.
- Assist students in troubleshooting technical problems and improving their skills.
- Work closely with other faculty members to integrate woodworking with other areas of study.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and administration regarding student progress and concerns.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Recommend tools, equipment, and materials to enhance the learning experience.
- Ensure students are aware of industry standards and practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move woodworking materials
- Comfortable working with tools, machinery, and in a workshop setting.
- Ability to stand for long periods and assist students with projects

About the role:
The successful candidates will inspire students through creative and practical design challenges while fostering their problem-solving, technical, and critical thinking skills. The Design Technology Teacher will teach students how to approach design projects, use materials and tools safely, and apply principles of engineering, product design, and sustainable practices.
