The aim of this role will be to complement the professional work of the teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision, usually whilst teachers have PPA time.

The role will include:

  • Planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for individuals/groups or short term for whole classes.
  • Monitoring pupils and assessing, recording and reporting on pupils’ achievement, progress and development.
  • Managing behaviour constructively in line with school policy
  • Provide support for pupils
  • Assess the needs of pupils and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support pupils’ learning
  • Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom
  • Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs
  • Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities

The HLTA role also provides much needed Support for teachers, with organising and managing an appropriate learning environment and resources, Monitoring and evaluating pupil responses to learning activities through a range of assessment and monitoring strategies against pre-determined learning objectives. You will also be responsible for providing accurate feedback and reports as required on pupil achievement, progress, and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence. The post is likely to require some administrative tasks, such as assessing/marking tests and invigilate exams/tests as well as the production of lesson plans, worksheets, plans etc

The successful candidates will be expected to carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, commensurate with the grade, and should have experience working with children of the relevant age in a learning environment AND have experience of whole class cover.
